: Let me first say that I am a California Firefighter in a city with only a quarter million in population so I don't expect to be even close to as good as you FDNY folks, but I do take tactics seriously. Also let me say this page is great for the fire service. It is a great training tool.

: Now to the fire. The building appears to be either brick and joist or frame with a brick venner. It has three windows per floor and no front fire escape, so I am going to assume only one apartment per floor. The occupancy is a triplex or a Multi dwelling depending on the number of floors. The common exitway and number one exposure is the interior stairwell. The fire is not a top floor fire so no exposure to the cockloft yet. Exposures 2 and 4 are attached but show no signs of current extension. Fire apears to be confined to one unit at this time, probably less than 1,200 square feet so an 1 3/4" hose line should do. The second major exposure is also interior and is the apartment above the fire.

: Truck work is critical as is usually the case. Reports on conditions from the second floor landing and from the floor above will ve of great value in continued size-up. Maybe the most imortant reports will come from the roof and the rear. From the roof: Are there shafts between exposures 2 and 4 and the fire? If there are any shafts is fire in them? What smoke conditions were found from the stairwell when the bulkhead or scuttle were opened. At the rear: how are conditions on the fire escape? is VES from the rear an option or is the whole unit lit up? Any exposures in the rear? My search priorities would be fire unit first, stairwell above second unit above third, top floor, if conditions warent fouth. Hope fully We have enough truckman on scene shortly to search all simaltaniously. Hopefully since the fire's in New York I could have a couple of those FDNY truck companies. If we have to depend on California, understaffed truck companies it might be bad news if anyone is trapped inside.

: I would back up my first line with a 2 1/2" but even here 1 3/4 should be OK, I just don't like to gamble. Both lines should be stretched up the interior stairwell. If a line is needed for the unit above, up the rear fire escape would be my choice.
: So what have I missed or did wrong?
guess I need to proof read my stuff before I push th post button. Sorry.
